Civilian Committee

Who are we?

Chair - Mrs Linda Roberts

Secretary - Mrs Val Fryer

Treasurer - Mrs Marie Dobson

We are a group of parents/guardians and friends of the squadron whose key role is the welfare of the cadets, which we achieve through fund raising. We hold four meetings a year and fundraise at a similar number of events, at which we also raise awareness of the cadet organisation and wonderful opportunities it offers to our young people.

However, we cannot do this without your help, we always welcome new people onto the committee, the next meeting is WEDNESDAY 24th AUGUST, 19.30 hrs. Our next fundraising event is the cake and plant stall in Beccles town, 30th May 2015.

Civilian Committee Update - March 2015

The beginning of 2015 has been a busy time for the committee. A programme of fundraising events is now in place, whcih will include our annual plant and cake sale in Beccles on May 30th, tombolas at the RAFA day at the Norfolk adn Suffolk Aviation Museum on August 9th and at the Weston Country Fair on August 23rd, and a further stall and the Crafts@Kirstead event over the weekend of September 12th/13th. By the time you read this, we will have completed a bag pack at Tescos in Beccles and we are waiting for confirmation of a similar event at Morrisons. As ever, we can't do these events without your support so please, do send small tombola prizes into squadron for the attention of CI Fryer or CWO Roberts. And do come and see us at the events - we are always delighted to meet new people. The committee is there for everyone, so if you do have spare time during 2015, come to a meeting and see how you can help. The squadron cannot run without us, so this is a real opportunity to greatly enhance your childs experience of the Air Cadet Organisation. If you need any further information about the committee and our role within the life of the squadron, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Civilian Committee Update - November 2014

2014 has been a good year for the committee and we thank all at the Squadron for their continued help and support. The cadets in particular have been marvellous, and we are immensely proud of each and every one of them. Since my last update, the high point has been the annual presentation evening, where a number of cadets were justly rewarded for their outstanding efforts. But I would like to add that every cadet in attendance can be justly proud of themselves - they really are the most wonderful bunch of people it has ever been my pleasure to work with.
The new squadron mini bus is now in regular use and will shortly be sign written, so that everyone will know who we are and where we come from! However, we still need to raise funds to keep it on the road. So if, after Christmas, there are good quality items which would be suitable for tombola prizes next year, please do bring them to squadron for collection. In the meantime, I wish you all a very Happy Christmas and I look forward to further events and excitement in 2015.

Civilian Committee Update - September 2014

This summer has been a busy time for the Civilian Committee with fund raising events at the Weston Country Fair (where cadets and staff also helped with car parking) and at the RAFA day at the Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum. We were delighted that the latter event also saw two new cadets come forward, and we are pleased to welcome them into the squadron.

However, our biggest event of the summer was the purchase of a mini bus. This will enable the staff to expand the number of activities which the cadets can get involved with and, to the best of my knowledge, CI Fryer and CWO Roberts are already compiling a list of things to do and places to go! If you have any suggestions of venues which may be suitable for a squadron visit, please do send them to CI Fryer.

On Saturday September 27th members of the committee will be helping the cadets with their fund raising bag pack at Morrisons, Beccles, so please do come along on the day and have your groceries expertly packed for you!

Finally, can I say again that the squadron and the committee continually rely on YOUR help and assistance. Please do talk to other parents and raise awareness of the opportunities available through the Air Cadet Organisation and please continue to support us wherever possible.

Civilian Committee Update - July 2014

Despite a very wet start to the day, I'm pleased to announce that the cake and plant stall held in Beccles on May 24th raised £181 towards squadron funds. Huge thanks go to all who provided cakes and plants, to all who endured an early bath and to all the cadets who, yet again, displayed exemplary behavior when dealing with the public.
Our next two events will be at the Weston country Fair on July 20th and the RAFA day at the Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum at Flixton on August 10th. Both are good family days out (plus excellent value for money) and it would be lovely to see you all there. We will need tombola items for both events, so if you could help, we would be grateful. Nothing large - a little something from QD would be fantastic. All donations please to CI Fryer or Flt Sgt Jade Roberts.

Please remember, everything we do is done for YOUR child, so please do help wherever possible.

Civilian Committee Update - March 2014

As this is our first 'post' in the newsletter, let me introduce the committee. We are a group of parents/guardians/friends of the squadron whose key role is the welfare of the cadets, which we achieve through fundraising. We hold four meetings a year and fund raise at a similar number of events, at which we also raise awareness of the cadet organisation and the wonderful opportunities it offers to our young people. The money raised last year allowed us to give grants to enable cadets to attend a number of camps/events including the Nijmegan March, an ACO band trip to play at the Menin Gate, Belgium and an adventure training expedition to Canada. We also support all cadets within the squadron through the purchase of equipment, which enables the furtherance of the DUKE of Edinburgh scheme and the BTEC Qualifications. However, we cannot do this without your help. We always welcome new people onto the Committee (next meeting May 14th), and our first fundraising event of this year is the cake and plant stall in Beccles on May 24th (more news to follow!). In addittion, we are always in need of tombola prizes so please, if you could help, I know all the cadets would be grateful. Finally, if any of you are able to promote the cadet organisation, please contact me. We have posters, fliers and recruitment literature, both for our events and for the ACO as a whole, so if you have anywhere at work or elsewhere where these could be displayed, it is your young person who will benefit.

Thank you and I really look froward to hearing from you.
